Did you wake up this morning and think: that’s it!, enough is enough, I’m going to stop dieting? Are you tired of feeling deprived and hungry and just want to end the vicious cycle of starving, losing weight and the seemingly inevitable binging? I know that feeling all too well. Everywhere we look there is a different weight loss plan or diet telling us we need to lose weight to be beautiful and happy.
I’ve tried so many different diets over the years, only to go off the plan and gain weight back. I kept searching for that magic pill, the one diet that would fix everything. The problem is, that as soon as I went off the “plan” I’d go back to my old habits and feel like a failure. Diets don’t work because they have an end. Consider doing something that you can sustain long-term, as in forever. A Lifestyle Change – a permanent way of living that wasn’t a state of deprivation and starvation.
Late in 2016, I knew we needed to make a big change, we just didn’t know what until recently. It was like a light bulb went on and I thought why did it take me so long to connect the dots? I need to do something that is NOT a plan that I will eventually go off of. I need to… Stop Dieting! It has to be a permanent way of living that isn’t a state of deprivation and doesn’t count points or calories. I want something easy, but something that makes progress. I didn’t get like this overnight and my health issues have slowly crept up on me. I’m not even sure when some of them started.
Start Eating Real Food
We have watched many documentaries, and read books on nutrition, sugar, fat, and salt. We have done a lot of online research. – I have always said Google is your friend. One idea that stuck with us is: “Eat Real Food, Not Too Much, and More Vegetables “. So I went online, working on trying to sort through stuff and, I stopped listening to all the hype. I tried different things that I read could affect weight loss and started to keep track of what worked for me and what didn’t. I used to try to do it all at once – cut back food, only eat salads, drink water, exercise, no treats …. and suffer, suffer, suffer! No wonder I’d throw in the towel after a week or two. This time I started with ONE thing and got that one “thing” to become a habit.
Once I stopped thinking about that one “thing”, I moved onto the next “thing” that I wanted to happen. Because I took small baby steps, I didn’t feel overwhelmed with 20 things to do. I had one “thing” to master into a habit. Why didn’t I think of this sooner? It has made my life so much easier!
Make One Change At A Time
This page will link you to other topics on our blog that we feel are important. These topics are the foundation that I have built my “plan” on … well, really there isn’t a plan per say. We have made a PERMANENT lifestyle change and just stopped dieting. No plan to go off of because this is how we are living life. Yes, we still have “treats”, we just don’t have them multiple times a day. The goal is to make better choices and cook what we want, even treats. When you prepare your own food, you know exactly what you’re eating. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel when you eat real food and stop dieting!
We have since gone low carb to help get my blood sugar and insulin under control and added intermittent fasting into the mix. We’re both feeling great and not deprived at all!
This page will be a work in progress. We’ll be adding links below to posts on our website for some of the things that we found made a difference. Chances are, they can help you too! Just remember, take it one thing at a time, this isn’t a race and every BODY is different. What works well for one may not work so well for you. This is all about listening to your body because it IS telling you what it needs. Slow and steady wins the race and remember, diets don’t work!
